HEALTH
AND SAFETY SCHEDULE
AMERICAN
RED CROSS
GREATER
BERWICK CHAPTER
Every minute of every hour, 24-hours a day,
year after year without rest, your heart pumps blood through
your body. The rhythm of a normal heart is constant. If for
some reason this rhythm is changed or interrupted, the heart
may no longer pump blood effectively, depriving the body of
oxygen and leading to death. Each year, approximately 500,000
Americans die of cardiac arrest.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
is a machine that analyzes the heart’s rhythm and, if
necessary tells you to deliver a shock, called defibrillation,
to a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. The vision of the
American National Red Cross AED Program is for
all Americans to be within four minutes of an AED, someone
trained to use it, and for one person in every household to be
trained in First Aid, CPR or other lifesaving skills.
The Greater Berwick Chapter supports this
vision as we continue to promote and encourage public access
to defibrillation by providing American Red Cross CPR/AED
training and by educating the community on the importance of
AEDs. The Chapter House is one of the growing number of public
buildings to have an AED in service.
